Be OK with the fact that the best interests of your IT infrastructure are realized through real world usage. Active Directory is there for a reason.
Let’s realize a starting point: A Network. The best part of a network is realizing it being employed as one had envisioned. Creating a network is one thing. Re-creating a network is kind of the same – but the creation process is not as free-flowing. A well executed plan should lead itself to a reliable and dynamic network which meets the needs of the users. Now, theres a ‘generic statement of the month’ if i ever heard one – but its so true.
Now when we think of the network we start thinking homeruns and access points whether they are wired or wireless and the primary and obvious focal point of all this activity is in your switches. Switches are great and Switches are good so label your ports as good IT’s should! Now let’s imagine a non labeled switching area.. Maybe you have 4 ports and you’re thinking hmm.. which blue cable could it be? The time involved in determining which blue cable it is – should you have 4 to select from should be monkey work. What about 24 ports? What about 48 ports? 150+ ports? Now we’re talking it’s a good time to get out the label gun and start labeling some shit up so it all makes sense for you 8 months down the road when the new IT dude starts.
But it’s more than rewiring switches. It’s more than securing your network. It’s more than AD or Group Policies or Terminal Services or DNS Servers or Gateway AntiVirus or VPN Tunneling or any of that nonsense. It’s about enjoying what you do. It’s about not leaving your work at work – it’s about investing yourself as deeply as possible in your task and realizing all aspects and all avenues of resolve while at the same time.. maintaining an up-to-date IT Log.
What about this Vista non-sense?
