Migrated all office PC’s to Windows 7 from Windows Vista Business. Awesome stuff. Missing a few Group Policies for the 7/R2 level but thats ok. The best is the ease of network backups. Love it!
Less resources – good performer – im stoked.
Ran into a few snags upon upgrading where a few systems were stuck @ 72%. Here’s the fix:
Reboot your computer for the system to roll back to Windows Vista OS
Navigate to Start >> right click on Computer >> Properties >> Advanced Settings >> Environment Variables
Under System Variables, click New >> press ENTER
Type in the following variable information:
Variable Name: MIG_UPGRADE_IGNORE_PLUGINS
Variable value: IphlpsvcMigPlugin.dll
Reboot your computer and restart Windows 7 upgrade installation process
You are done.

After the new rebuild – nothing better to do than to enjoy some BF2! OOOPS! Didn’t quite work out as planned. Installed from CD then patched with 1.5 full patch only to find CTD (crash to desktop) upon launching. No compatibility mode is required. You may notice when trying to do 1.5 from vanilla install you get a version error. Adding 1.4 to your Version registry key isn’t the answer. In fact – this means the 1.5 Patch installer cannot locate the 1.41 files required for the upgrade. Adding the registry key Version with value 1.4 will allow the 1.5 Full Patch to install but will likely yield an unplayable game.
Here’s what ya wanna do:
1. Disable UAC
2. Install BF2 as per normal.
3. Install BF2 1.41 Full Patch
4. Install BF2 1.5 Full Patch
5. Update PunkBuster manually.
Voila! Played without a single crash or hiccup all night!

No no…. im not introducing it to you – im introducing it into our 2008 Domain. The first machines to be hit by this will be actually.. funny enough.. NON domain related machines.. ha.. WHY? Well – with the *i dont know factor* of how group policy objects affect Windows 7 machines at the 2008 (non r2) level.
AND – the machines in mention only need to access HTTP on our local network. Thus, it gravitates many people towards using and successfully feeling as though the IT guy has done his job by staying … uhh.. more up to date than need be?
We’ll see!
